I Love Lucy
The TOTAL Aboriginal Interpretive Trail, located near the entrance to MacDonald Island Park in Fort McMurray, AB, features 28 hand-painted foxes created by local artists and students. Seven large-scale sculptures representing the Seven Teachings also live on this beautiful walking trail next to the Athabasca River.
My fox, titled “I Love Lucy”, was inspired by the story of a three-legged fox that frequented the MacDonald Island Golf Course in the 1970s. Despite being infamous for stealing golf balls, Lucy, as she came to be called, was very popular with the local residents.
Dressing Lucy in golfing attire seemed fitting, tying together nature and leisure, two things synonymous with the are where she is installed. Be sure to give her a wave when you next visit the trail.
